And there you have it! This is why I call you the Science Lady.
I've been attracted to grounding techniques but in mind I'm like but I'm getting out into nature, slowing down, taking my shoes off, relaxing, "doing something good for myself". I mean I know what the science says about being out in nature.
But what you are hitting upon is the science hasn't proven that grounding beyond being out in nature, if this is where it is done, is what is happening.
And the grounding mat - Yes, I want a study here. They even have grounding sheets or something to sleep with at night.
I thought this was bunk from the day I was introduced to it. My husband bought into it and got us grounding sheets... I didn't feel any different. He claimed he did. Then he died. I don't think they worked though this isn't empirical evidence.
Well one thing has worked from grounding…my heels are no longer rough -I went out as much as possible in the yard w/o shoes last summer to water, etc. , and my feet were as smooth as they’d ever been. 💯 changed!
Don't know much about grounding but I do know my Sunday morning barefoot walks on the beach sure feel good. And then laying on the sand feeling the breeze and listening to the waves makes for a great day! Guess I forgot the grounding mat! Thanks for the article
I for one, never could get my head around the 'grounding' products out there. It didn't make sense to me that laying on sheets that are plugged into the electrical socket, would help me feel better. But it does make me feel more energized when I get outside and use what is around us in the world to 'ground' me. A good walk, barefoot in the grass or on the beach just feels good. It is like gardening and getting my hands dirty. For some reason, it just feels good.
I agree 100%. I felt the same way when I heard about grounding products (and some are really expensive) so I had to do a deep dive into the research. And there's not much research to review. But I know I always feel better just being outside. I think there's a placebo effect with these products.
I’ve always wondered about grounding. What if they did the same study with one group shoed and one group barefoot with the same exposure? Would the effect be the same?
I thought grounding was when our energy field aligns with the earths energy field. The earth’s natural magnetic field has about 7.8 Hz, the Schumann resonance. This is within the same frequency range as human alpha brain waves — the calming brain waves. Have you heard that?
I’ll still take my beach walks barefoot when it’s warm enough 😊
Great points - we do need to see a randomized experiment testing one group "grounding" and the other not and see if there are any differences. I have always heard grounding explained as an electron transfer. But your comment with the earths energy field is very interesting.
I had both a grounding mat and a grounding sheet. Like I do whenever I try these things, I didn't overthink it. I do this to let it do what it can do, assuming it can do anything. I found no benefit. I'm glad you mentioned the placebo effect - it is powerful, and this is what we should be doing more research on.
I like that you tried it and were open minded. I did buy a ground mat because I wanted to try it for myself - and, like you, I noticed no benefit. But I did notice that I always feel better when I'm outside - and walking barefoot in the sand always makes me feel better. But the placebo effect is a real and powerful thing.
I think being outside and connecting to nature is emotionally healing. Is it the electrons? Who knows. Could be the sunlight, fresh air, and movement. Lying on a mat will never give you the joy of being outside on a beautiful day, feeling your toes in the grass, wind on your face.
Thanks for reading the studies so I don't have to Heather! I appreciate you!
Oh no. I’ll have to toss out my grounding mat and walk on the beach 😊
Haha. Try to sell it on Ebay ;). Enjoy the beach walk

You seem to be in nature a lot. Love your pics of you enjoying the outdoors. You've got it figured out. And skip the grounding sheets ;)

Likely just a placebo effect - which is a real thing. And sorry to hear about your husband.
Thank you, I appreciate you as always.

A definite positive of going barefoot.

I love a barefoot walk on the beach or the grass too. But its not curing me of every disease like grounding products claim.
